Employee hardware
Computer
We want all employees(longterm) to be on the same OS, so we buy exclusively Apple hardware to employees.
What we offer is the latest mac mini base model at the time of buying, in 2025: Mac mini M4 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD.
In future years it will be M5 etc. Employees can usually upgrade every 2-3 years.
If the employee wants a more expensive macbook or upgrade from the base model, the company can cover part of the cost, equivalent to the price of the mac mini base model, example:
# Note, the base model price varies over time and by region. So $800 is just an example.
Macbook pro cost $1500
mac mini base model $800
Company covers 800, $700 cost for employee.
Before the company buys the computer, mutual trust has to be established (usually through a few weeks/months of work).
How to purchase: You pay for the computer privately, inform about it/send receipt, then you get the amount added to your next wage payment. Tip: Use the student website if available in your country, Apple does not check student status. For example edu store in Norway: https://www.apple.com/no-edu/store
The mac mini is company equipment and has to be returned if employment relationship ends.
Network equipment
Company can cover new router if you don’t already have a router on the latest Wi-fi standard: Wi-fi 7 router in 2025.
If using ethernet/cabled, this is not necessary.
Max cost: $200
Monitor
In general I believe one big monitor is usually good enough + CMD+TAB to switch fast between applications.
I think multiple monitors is often a distraction and does not add to productivity.
The company might help upgrade the monitor. Has to be discussed and justified.
Phone
The newest Iphone will be provided once the company is profitable, with upgrade cycle 2-3 years, same as computer.
A second condition is that the employee has worked more than 1 year at the company.
